I like technology and computers, but what are the best jobs to have? I kept hearing about DATA related jobs, but not sure exactly what this means. help.
hi jjq22015 – not to be cliche, but it all depends. The best jobs can mean different things to different people. Is it dependent upon how much money you can make? Career growth? Fondness for the work? Data related jobs are always a big draw, because companies need to learn how to extract knowledge from that data. It’s important to rely on numbers and not just making guesses when you are running a business. How many customers are buying are new widget? How many people are visiting out website? These are things data will tell you, so reporting is always an aspect of data analytic jobs. It gets much more complex than this, but data is definitely a hot field. In 2016, data scientist was listed as the best job in America. It helps to solve customer problems, which is a big deal. It predicts trends and unveils things that might be getting done poorly. The list goes on and on. Still, if data isn’t your thing, there are plenty of other roles: Developer or programmer, graphic designer, Cyber security professional, Network administrator, IT Manager, Product Manager, Software Engineer, QA Tester, and the list goes on. Sometimes titles are misleading, but focus on what aspects of computers and technology you like first – THEN it will be easier to find a role that aligns with your interests.
I agree with PM dynamo. It all depends. jjq22015, what are you passionate about? Focus on what you like and it will lead you down the right path. By the way, data jobs are ones where specific individuals – skilled in retrieving, modeling, analyzing data – help companies make critical business decisions. How many customers / transactions did we have last month? (that is data) … Where do we store customer records? How do we decipher which stores are most profitable? All relates to understanding data. Hope that helps.
